While reading reports on this year’s Global Cybersecurity Index that was released on 29 June 2021, an article titled, This Asian Nation Is a Quiet Leader in Cybersecurity on Bloomberg caught my attention for many reasons and amongst it was this line, “While neither a technology powerhouse nor a prolific hacker, Malaysia’s standing comes from an early commitment to cybersecurity issues and a solid national strategy.”
Malaysia ranked eighth out of 194 states in the Index that was conducted by International Telecoms Union, a United Nations agency. From a possible 100 points, Malaysia amassed 98.06 points to be amongst the crème de la crème of cyber nations. Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said its ministry together with Cybersecurity Malaysia, remain committed to achieve the aspiration of bringing Malaysia into the age of digitisation and to become a regional pioneer in digital economy.
